2BITS

2BITS express the illusions inherent in externally imposed polarity. One grid dissolves only to be replaced by another composed of the same elements. The attempt to obfuscate the fundamental unity of all things is the source of all evil and the game played by those who would control others for selfish gain.

When it all falls apart, find a use for the pieces.

DIGITAL RODEO

The value an object brings to the world and illusions of exclusivity are examined in the realm of ethics.
— Robert Arpin, Artist

Digital Rodeo (2011-2016) was conceived as a blockchain based remotely manufactured furniture brand. Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper describing decentralized distributed ledgers in 2008 pointed to a future revolution in the production of furniture. Ubiquitous Baltic plywood with its established global distribution and the humble 3-axis CNC router are behind the inspiration for a templated furniture brand that can be produced anywhere using smart machines and local talent.

Pop is dead.

Binary limits and the aesthetics of polarity are subjects explored using the diptych.

These photographs explore communicability through what is shared, discarded and repurposed. The composition and execution unfold simultaneously in a performance that is captured and released as a non-fungible token. The resulting work is free to take root and create value or be lost forever in a bottomless digital ocean. All objects were found in a Union City thrift store between December of 2019 to March of 2020. Photographed as found during the pandemic using an i-Phone 11 MAX PRO with minimal staging and post production.
